First Post!

Boy do I have some catching up to do!

I've been training for more than a month now for the Iron Girl triathlon. This will be my first triathlon, so I'm excited (and a little bit nervous!) to see how everything comes together!

My weak spot, I think, will be biking! I don't have a road bike, so that slows me down. I've been swimming up at the Syracuse University gym pool twice a week, and have surprised myself with how easy it was for me to get back into swimming. I haven't done distance-swimming in 10 years or more! I've been jogging since high school to stay in shape, so that's the part about the triathlon I'm not too worried about.

Last week on Tuesday I participated in the JP Morgan-Chase Corporate challenge with some of my other Time Warner Cable employees. I had a lot of fun and I ran a really good race-- I did the full 3.5 miles in 30:17 (which, for me, is making pretty good time!)

The following day, on Wednesday, I took advantage of the CNY Tri Club event at Jamesville Beach. They do a mini-triathlon every Wednesday, and because I signed up for Iron Girl I'm able to participate in those events. That was really beneficial for me because I got to see what specific things I need to work on.

For one, I need new goggles! I knew the dollar store pair I bought were just a temporary fix, but I didn't realize how bad they'd be until I swam in a lake instead of a pool! I can usually figure out where I'm going when I'm in a swimming pool, with crystal clear water and a straight line to follow. But the murky lake water, plus the foggy/leaky goggles made my swimming experience awful! I couldn't tell where the buoyed were that I was supposed to be swimming to, which forced me to tread water and waste energy!

I learned that I waste a lot of time in my transition from swimming to biking while putting my socks and shoes on. Not sure how I'll fix that...

But I also learned that some of the time I lose riding my bike I'm able to pick up while jogging.

This coming week I'm hoping to update every time I train so that my posts aren't so long!
